Tips on How to Bathe a Baby

Many new mothers tend to feel apprehensive about bathing their new born babies on their own when they return from the hospital.

It is essential to know that baby can be sponged down as many times as you want to, however, babies, just like adults, need their daily thorough bath for hygiene purposes.

There is no need to feel insecure about the task which seems so huge. Parents need to relax and turn the bath time into a fun time with the baby. Also look at it as spending quality time with your bundle of joy.

There are a few things to bear in mind, such as:

• Have everything you need, such as baby body wash, baby shampoo, baby's wash cloth, towel, ready and at close reach. Also the baby bath filled with water.

• Have the baby's diaper, creams, clothing ready in the nursery so that you do not have to rush around after the bathing is done.

• When all is ready, undress baby, wrap in towel and carry baby to wherever you intend bathing baby.

• Make sure the temperature of the water is correct, by putting your elbow into the water and test if not too hot. There are baby bath toys on the market, which you can put in the bath, which shows up different colors when too hot, if you feel you may need it.

• It is most important to relax at this stage and make it a fun occasion for your baby. Babies do sense when you are not relaxed, which can make your baby feel insecure, instead of enjoying the bath.

• Make sure that your baby's head

and shoulders are above the water. Place your baby's head in the palm of your hand, so you have total control of your baby's body all the time. Wash all areas well, and at the same time, you can chat away to your baby or even sing a lullaby.

• Before you even realize it, you will become the expert on bathing your little bundle of joy.
